Cassandra Lou Eagle 1964 – 2014

Cassandra “Sandy” Lou Eagle, 49 left this world on February 8, 2014. She passed quietly in her sleep.
Service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in White’s Azle Chapel, 105 Denver Trail, Azle.  Interment will be held at Ash Creek Cemetery, 300 S. Stewart St., Azle.
She was born and raised in Azle and rarely left, unless Kid Rock was playing or a new Johnny Depp movie was out.

Sandy was born to the late Joy Berry on Feb. 10, 1964. She graduated from ETSU and taught school at the Rock in Azle until poor health forced her to retire. Sandy loved her boys with all her heart and was so proud of them for both going to Texas Tech. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include; loving sons, Hunter and Tucker; father, Don Eagle; sister, Penny Weeks and husband, John; uncle, Harold Eagle; several nephews, great nieces and cousins.

Agnes Pugh, 90, loving mother and grandmother passed away Friday, Feb. 7, 2014. Graveside service was held Tuesday, Feb. 11 at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Fort Worth under the direction of White’s Azle Funeral Home.
Agnes was born Jan. 1, 1924 in Graford, Florida to Ruffin and Ethel Griffis. She will be greatly missed by all of her family.
Agnes was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe Pugh; and daughter, Betty Campbell.

Survivors include; son, Larry Pugh; daughter, Gloria Bell; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Hazel Akin passed from her earthly home on Feb. 3, 2014 at the age of 83 years.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday Feb. 6, 2014 at Clayton Kay Vaughan Funeral Home Chapel in Alvarado. Interment immediately followed the service at Glenwood Cemetery. Visitation was Wednesday evening 6-8 p.m. at Clayton Kay Vaughan Funeral Home in Alvarado.
She was born Dec. 25, 1930 in Macks, Arkansas to Sloan and Clema Simmons. She was married to Roy James Van Winkle Nov. 13, 1948. As the result of a tragic auto accident she was left as a widow with three small children. She made it through many struggles to successfully raise her children. Feb. 14, 1963 she married Ben Akin. They combined their children making one family. As Ben’s health declined she again was able to pickup the pieces and continue on.

She was a good mother and wonderful grandmother. While her children worked, she had the privilege of being Mamo and babysitter. Her grandchildren have many fond memories to cherish. She also loved her church, Buel Baptist Church, and her many good friends there.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and four sisters, husbands, Roy James Van Winkle and Ben Akin.
Hazel is survived by a very special friend, Chick Brewington. You could look the world over and be very lucky to find such a dear friend. Through her final journey, he never left her side. Other survivors include; children, Patsy Yawn and husband,Terry, Richard Van Winkle and wife Pam all of Alvarado, Linda Wright and husband Don of Weatherford, seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Ethel Owens Lester, 76, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, in Fort Worth.
Service was held at 2 p.m. Feb. 15, 2014 at Walnut Creek Baptist Church in Reno. Interment at Goshen Cemetery. Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Biggers Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Mrs. Lester was a lifelong Springtown area resident and a member of Walnut Creek Baptist Church for over 30 years.

Survivors include; husband, Jerry G. Lester; children, Terry Clayton Lester and Felicia E. Smith of Weatherford; brother, Jimmy Lee Owens of Weatherford; sister, Mary Ruth Jones of Roby, Missouri; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Sat., Feb. 15 at the First Baptist Church of Cottondale. Burial followed in Wilson Prairie Cemetery in Bridgeport.
Survivors include; daughters, Cindy Clayton and Katrina Hatcher, son Daryl Davis, and other family.

Tommy Landers, 81, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014.
Service will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19 at the Azle Church of Christ under the direction of White’s Azle Funeral Home.
Interment will be at Meadowbrook Cemetery, Paris, Texas. Visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at White’s Azle Funeral Home.
Tommy was born Oct. 23, 1932 in Lake Creek, Texas to the late Autry L. and Lillie Dial Landers.

He graduated from Cooper High School and married the love of his life, Maejohn Johnson July 19, 1957 at College Church of Christ in Paris. He honorably served his country in the National Guard. Tommy worked many years for Westinghouse and retired from Hobbs Trailer. Prior to his death Tommy was a security guard at Eagle Mountain Marina. He was a faithful member of the Azle Church of Christ.
Survivors include; wife, Maejohn Landers of Azle; daughter, Donna Hooton of Azle; son, Rusty Landers and wife, Marla of Rowlett; grandchildren, Cortney Alphin and husband, Brian of Azle, Britney Bowers and husband, Aaron of Azle, Jordan Hooton and wife, Deidra of Naples, Landon Hooton of Danigerfield, Autumn Landers of Rowlett, Aaron Landers of Rowlett; great-grandchildren, Haley, Piper and Lailah; sister, Bobbie Price; many nieces, nephews and loving family members.

Thomas Burford Scott, 80, passed away on Monday, Feb. 17, 2014 surrounded by family and friends, after suffering from a brief illness.
Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20 at Dallas National Cemetery.
Tom was born August 22, 1933 in Springtown, Texas to Frank and Anna Scott. He served his country in the Korean and Vietnam Wars proudly for 20 years. He was a very giving and loving father and grandfather. He loved his Bible and his favorite passage was the 23rd Psalm. He will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.

Survivors include; sister, Mary Alice McCallion; sons, Jack Scott (Susie), Kirk Scott (Mary); daughter, Frances Scott Anderson, seven granddaughters; six great-granddaughters and two great- grandsons; many nieces, nephews and a host of extended family and friends

Ida E. “Sue” Masterson, 70,  a longtime Azle area resident passed away Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014 in a Weatherford hospital.
A graveside service was held on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014 at Ash Creek Cemetery under the direction of Biggers Funeral Home.
Survivors include; her husband, of 52 years, Charles E. Masterson, Sr. of Azle;  children, Charlotte Furr and husband Eric of Nashville, Tennessee, Betty Jack and husband Paul, Charley Masterson, Jr. and wife Kerrie and Chris Masterson all of Azle; 8 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Dustin Duran Martin, 26, passed away, Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014 at home.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m., Wednesday at Outreach of Love Church, Springtown. Visitations were  from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at Alexander’s Midway Funeral Home. Burial service were at Azleland Memorial Park.
Dustin was born August 14, 1987 in Anadalusia, Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Robert Martin. Survivors include; mother and stepfather, Robin and Gerardo Castillo; father, Tim Barker; brother, Brandon Barker and wife, Brittany; sister, Alicia Barker; grandparents, Marilyn Martin and Manueal Alvarado; aunts and uncles, Eddie, Billy and Robert Martin and T.J., Mark, Jimmy, Collin and Laura Fagar; nephews, Gage, Kane and Raiden Barker.

Anna Louise Ketcham Shearer, 93, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, friend and long-time Azle resident, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014 peacefully, at home, after a gradual decline of health.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Ash Creek Baptist Church, 300 S. Stewart, Azle, Texas.
Anna was born July 4, 1920 in Redwing, Colorado to Nicholas and Mary Ellen Judicak Ketcham and at 22 was married to Eartis Roy Shearer, July 11, 1942. They moved to Azle in 1950 where they raised their four sons and two daughters. He preceded her in death on September 24, 1975.

She was a homemaker who enjoyed embroidering tea towels and potholders and cooking for her family, who all especially loved her biscuits and fried pies. She loved spending time with the grandchildren, who were the apple of her eye. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her family. Those left to cherish her memories are her six children (and spouses). daughters, Nada Shearer and Olga Shearer; sons, Kenneth Shearer, Eddie Shearer (Sharon), Guy Shearer (Donna), and Robert Shearer, all of Azle area; six grandchildren (and spouses); Chad Shearer (Chy), Ryan Shearer (Carrie), Trey Shearer (Jeniffer), Ashley Shearer Arellano (Jason), Dalley Saunders Galuzzi (Aaron) and Andrew Saunders (Cherie); twelve great-grandchildren, Coltyn and Hunter Safford and Gatlyn Shearer; Anna, Ethan and Evan Shearer; Jase, Skyler, Kenzie and Everly Arellano; and Sienna and Noelle Galuzzi; brother, Bob Hasenack and wife Irene of Colorado; sister, Pauline Naney of Colorado and sister-in-law Luella Shearer of Azle and numerous nephews, nieces and friends.
The family wishes to thank Mission Hospice for their excellent care and kindness shown to their mother over the last 9 months; with a special thanks to Dianna Cross and Kandra Vickers, who so lovingly assisted the family with her care.

Joe “Pa Pa” Price, 74 passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Feb. 9, 2014 at 3:29 p.m.
Memorial services will be held at 11a.m., March 1, 2014, at The Emanuel Bldg. located at 605 S. E. Parkway, Azle, Texas 76020.
Joe was born Nov. 23, 1939 to Delbert and Pearl Price in Anna, Texas. He married the love of his life Ann Price on March 14, 1970. Joe and Ann moved to Reno, Texas, in 1982 and continued to live there until his death.  Joe had many hobbies such as repairing bikes for the neighborhood children, watching the Dallas Cowboys, fishing, and going to the races with his grandsons. Joe also took great joy in helping his grandchildren in their time of need. Joe started out working for the city of Dallas then started his own company as a brick mason and continued laying brick throughout his lifetime. Joe was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jerry Price and grandson, Richard Pryor.
Survivors include; daughters, Peggy Pryor and husband Rick Londburg of Decatur, Betty Luna of Aurora, La Nelda Jones of Weatherford, Jerry Faye and husband Loyd of Chapel Hill, Tennessee; sons, William Sherman of Azle and Price Ables and wife Lisa of McKinney; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and  seven great-great-grandchildren. Joe is also survived by a brother Jimmy Price and wife Shelly, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loving friends, and his little dog Little Girl.

Jim Garrett Reese, 69, of Fort Worth passed away on his ranch in Milagro, New Mexico, Friday, Feb. 21, 2014. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in Rogers Mortuary and Funeral Home in Las Vegas, New Mexico.  Lifelong friend, Rev. Don McKee will officiate.  Graveside service and burial will be in Buena Vista, New Mexico on the Reese Family Ranch. Visitation will be 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Reese was born July 16, 1944 in Fort Worth to Muriel and Elizabeth Reese.  Jim was a 1962 graduate of Lake Worth high school.  As a young man, he worked on his family’s ranch, where his passion for working cattle and horses quickly developed; and it became obvious to all that he was a born natural. He began his career managing cattle for the Foley-Allen Commission Company, located in the now historic Fort Worth Stockyards Exchange, and soon after, he became an order buyer for their company. He later began his own cattle operation and continued ranching in the Parker County area for several years, before moving to New Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include; mother, Elizabeth Reese; son, Brandon Chad Reese; daughter, Piper Reese Pardue; granddaughter, Sawyer Reese Pardue and his siblings, Jerry Wilhite, Anson Reese, Jeff Reese, Laurie Crow, Sarah Horner, Joel Reese and Lisa Griego, and their families.

Michelle Dawn Rankin, 40, passed away peacefully Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014.
Services were held  Monday, Feb. 24, at White’s Azle Funeral Home. Interment  was at  Ash Creek Cemetery.
Michelle was born May 7, 1973 in Milford, Delaware to Donald and Sally Rankin. She attended Azle High School and enjoyed being a CNA. Michelle had been the manager of several restaurants. She loved animals, especially her little Snuggle Bear and loved to be with people.

Survivors include; Soul mate, Christopher Hyden; father, Don Rankin and wife, Cynthia; mother, Sally Rankin Martin and husband, Richard; brothers, Donald Rankin, II, Jason Rankin, Matthew Rankin and significant other, Crystal Montez; sister, Sandy Rankin;  stepbrother, Robert Grozier and wife, Sherry; faithful four legged friend, Snuggle Bear; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Charles Cecil Vanderbilt, 93, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2014. Funeral service is at 11 a.m. Thursday in Biggers Funeral Chapel. Interment at Moore Memorial Gardens. Visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Biggers Funeral Home.
Cecil was born to John and Minnie Vanderbilt in Texarkana, Arkansas on Sept. 23, 1920 and was the last surviving member of his eight siblings. He was raised on a farm outside of Texarkana and attended Texarkana High School where he excelled in football as a running back. After the war, Cecil returned to Fort Worth and met the love of his life, Katherine “Kappy” A. Stokley, who had waited for him during the three years after he was drafted. They were married on Feb. 10, 1946. They raised four children in Haltom City while Cecil worked for General Dynamics for over 40 years and they then retired to enjoy a wonderful life at their house on Eagle Mountain Lake. Traveling was a passion of Cecil’s and Kappy’s that took them to 47 states. They were members of the North Texas Travel Trailer Club and they loved taking cruises to many countries. Cecil was always kind and patient with everyone and lived life having never met a stranger. Cecil and Kappy were members of Azle First Baptist Church.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Meadow Lakes Retirement Community, Azle Manor and the angels at Vitas Hospice of Baylor All Saints Hospital for the loving care and respect you showed our father during his time there. Each of you is a gift from heaven.
Cecil was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters; his wife, Kappy; grandson, Kirk Hard; and son-in-law, Guy Hard.
Survivors include; children of the “Best Dad Ever”; Sharon Lobb and her husband, Pat, of McKinney, Janie Conner and her husband, Ralph, of Azle, William C. Vanderbilt of Azle, Sue Ann Boren and husband, Barry, of Liberty Hill; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Emma Stokley of Klamath Falls, Oregon.

Lucille Kret, 95, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014. The funeral was held at Mount Olivet Chapel with the interment in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Lucille was born Dec. 2, 1918, in Lingleville to Elmer Grissom and Etna Purvis-Grissom. She was a resident of Saginaw for 44 years before moving to Azle in 2008. Lucille married the late John P. Kret. For more than 50 years she was a master tailor and co-owner of Ned and Johnnie’s Cleaners and Tailors in Fort Worth. She was an active member of the Fort Worth Friendship Club, SPJST Ladies Circle and a 75-year member of SPJST Lodge 92.

Survivors include; son, Timothy Paul Kret and wife, Jane Ann; daughters, Linda Horner and husband, Jimmy, Sharon Kret and husband, Bill; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Emmitte Keys 64, retired welder died Tuesday Feb. 25 2014.

Emmitte was born July 4, 1949 to Glover and Jimmie Keys in Buffalo, Texas.
Proceeded in death by both parents and one brother, Jimmy Keys.
Survivors include; wife, Sonda; son, Leon Keys and wife Cindy; daughter, Ginger Marie De LaCruz; step-son, Tyler Ferguson; two brothers, Herburt Keys and Skeeter Keys; two sisters, Ginger Peruis and Roxie Graham; three grandchilderen, Kaleb Keys, Victoria and Abby De LaCruz and many more loving family members.

Nancy Ruth Elliott, 72, of Magalia, California departed this world Feb. 21, 2014 at Paradise Hospice Center in Paradice, California. Mrs. Elliott, was born in Bristow, Oklahoma on March 1, 1941. She was the daughter of the late, Mr. and Mrs. Therbert Clinton Edwards.
She was preceded in death by husband, Loy Elliott; brother, Robert Edwards; daughter, Lillie Brake; grandson, William Langley; two great-grandsons, Austin Hall and H.B. Thomasson.

Survivors include; five daughters, Cynthia (Bill) Langley of Washington, Susan (Rick) Finch of Texas, Ruby Hopkins of California, Sharon (Paul) Buckley of California, and Lequitta Elliott of California; two sons, Rex (Kris) Brake, of California, and Timothy (Theresa) Brake of Texas; 22 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; sisters, Polly, Nettie, Patty and Wilma; brothers, Clinton, Orval and Alfred; multiple nieces and nephews. American by heart, who will be forever loved and missed by many, but will never be forgotten.

Christine Cheney Green, 59, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, Feb. 28, 2014 at home, surrounded by those who loved her. Memorial service at 1 p.m., Thursday at Walnut Creek Baptist Church.
Christine was born Nov. 25, 1954 to Milburn and Nell Brooks. She was a rock and a blessing to everyone she knew and touched many hearts.
She was preceded in death by her father.

Corey Allan Berry, 43, passed away Friday, Feb. 28, 2014 at his home.
Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Biggers Funeral Chapel. Interment at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Biggers Funeral Home.

Corey was born August 1, 1970 in Fort Worth and was a 1988 graduate of Azle High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force, having been stationed in San Antonio, Germany, Somalia, Egypt, and California. He was always fun-loving, big hearted and the life of the party. He loved Texas Rangers baseball and will always be remembered by those he touched in life.
Survivors include; parents, Tom and Pamela Berry of Azle; brother, Brandon Berry and wife, Kristi of Murphy; his beloved niece and nephew, Abi and Grayson; his “special girl”, Sophie; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.
